NEW YORK CITY FC HEAD COACH PASCAL JANSEN
On how the 2026 Lamar U.S. Open Cup win impacts mentality after recent MLS results... “It helps, but we also have to put it in perspective. It was a [Lamar Hunt U.S. Open] Cup game where the resistance is different compared to MLS.... If you take the Miami game, it has its own story. St. Louis is something that is fully our own responsibility for that result. The game in Vancouver, I think it was decided in the defensive box on our side with the quality of their chances. So, every game in MLS has a separate story. For us, it’s mainly making sure that we focus on what we need to improve to play the games the way we want to play, which will give us the biggest chance of winning.”
On what defines the matchup against Charlotte... “We played them a couple of times in 2025, and they have a very strong team with some high-quality players. They are well organized as well... I think the games have shown so far in 2025 that we are two competitive teams with a lot of quality on the field. I’m looking forward to seeing us play each other again because I, for one, enjoyed the games we played against Charlotte last season.”
