PATERSON, NJ (Feb. 14, 2026) — The New York Cosmos continue to strengthen their roster ahead of the club’s USL League One debut with the signing of former Cosmos Academy player and East Rockaway, NY, native Leo Guarino.
Guarino, 22, brings attacking versatility and deep local roots to the Cosmos as the club prepares for its return to professional competition. Guarino spent the 2020-21 season with the Cosmos Academy and previously captained New York City FC’s U-17 team.
“Leo is another talented player whose skills into our playing philosophy,” Cosmos Head Coach Davide Corti said. “He is young and eager to improve individually and achieve a higher level in professional soccer. He is already showing well in training.”
A graduate of East Rockaway High School, Guarino made 68 appearances across his four collegiate seasons. He spent three years at Wake Forest University, tallying 10 goals and two assists in 51 games. Guarino then transferred to Boston College in 2024 and played in all 17 matches that fall, starting 10 while notching one goal and three assists for the 6-5-6 Eagles.
Guarino’s addition reflects the Cosmos’ ongoing commitment to identifying and nurturing promising talent with local ties.
Editor's Note: Leo did NOT play for the Cosmos Academy, but with their first team.
