NEW YORK CITY FC HEAD COACH PASCAL JANSEN
On the importance of playing a full 90 minutes... “Obviously [Forward] Alonso [Martinez] was brought on because of what I explained to you guys just now. At that point, I think it was still 1–0 when he came on. Looking for that equalizer was the idea behind that. The last 15 or 20 minutes when the goals fell, you could also see in the first half we got punished for one minor mistake. That's when they made the 1–0, because it's a simple loss of possession from our side, and it's open in the middle and they punish us for that. The last 15 minutes we get two similar situations going down the middle, unfortunately. That's what I said to my boys also just now. When you play against a team like this, the first 45 minutes we played pretty decent. We had two, three good moments in the game in order to get ourselves on the scoreboard. It was determined by one error and then we go 1–0 down into halftime. Those errors were also part of the second half and punished severely. That's the quality of [Inter] Miami also, because in the moments of transition, they're so fast and they show good quality and punish us for those moments.”
On losing intensity at the end of the match... “It doesn't worry me. It's something that is, simply, we have to try and avoid it. I never use excuses, so I'm not going to do that now either. We have to play these games, and they follow each other rapidly. We just have to be ready and be better, because we've shown this also in quite a few matches recently. Also, when we played Columbus [Crew] or Charlotte [FC] or any of those opponents that we were head-to-head with, and then we kept the intensity. For whatever reason it was gone. That's for me and my staff to analyze and make sure we're aware of it and avoid it from happening again.
NEW YORK CITY FC MIDFIELDER JUSTIN HAAK
On the remainder of the season and preparing for the Hudson River Derby Saturday... “It's been tough. [It’s] so many games in such a short period of time and obviously it's going to take a toll on our bodies. At this point in the season, every game is so important. We have to do whatever we can and be ready for the game on Saturday.”
NEW YORK CITY FC DEFENDER KEVIN O'TOOLE
On the importance of Thiago Martins and the team adapting during the final matches of the regular season. “Defensively, he's obviously a stalwart for us in the back line and it was a new position for [Midfielder] Aiden [O’Neill]. I guess the idea was to get more attack-minded players on the field. I think we're in a tough stretch and everyone's played a lot of minutes, and I think if it was a move to get some rest, then we move forward and we got to handle it better. That's all it is.”
