Looking ahead to our match against Inter Miami CF, we've provided media assets for your convenience.
NEW YORK CITY FC HEAD COACH PASCAL JANSEN
On the additions of Midfielder Nicolás Fernandez Mercau and Defender Raul Gustavo... “Personality-wise and quality-wise is something that they add to this dressing room, and both also show the extra quality that we were looking for. Another aspect is the flexibility of both players. They can play in multiple positions, which helps the team, and they still show high quality in their game. Mentality-wise, also, both players are winners, and they add a lot of energy to the winning mentality of the team. So, we’re very happy that they have chosen to come and support our project. You’ve seen that in the past few games. But there are still a few games to go.”
On whether it’s a greater challenge to raise the group when form isn’t good or to rein them in when form is really good... “We have several tools in our program and in our approach for how we deal with our people in order to try and be as proactive as we can, to have the energy flowing through the team in the dressing room and in the building, in order to make sure that we always can focus on the right details going into training or into matches. So, I would say in general, it’s about being very proactive in every scenario, and that includes when you’re in a good phase or in a little less good phase. It is about making sure that you stay proactive in order to achieve and maintain a team and staff members [who are] in the positive phase of a season.”
NEW YORK CITY FC DEFENDER TAYVON GRAY
On the confidence in the locker room... “The energy right now is obviously buzzing. We're in good form right now, honestly. Me and the coach and everyone spoke about it today. Honestly, it just feels like relief. We're here now and we just set our next goal. We just want to be top four and then whatever good happens after that can happen too, but at the moment, we're just focused on being in the top four.”
CAPTIVATING IN CITI FIELD New York City FC heads back to the World’s Borough to host at Citi Field for the first time since May, when Miami comes back into town.
Seventeen matches have been played between New York City’s last home game at Citi Field—against the New York Red Bulls on May 17, 2025 (Matchday 14)—and their upcoming home game against Inter Miami on September 24, 2025 (Matchday 36)
This will be not only the fourth match for the team at Citi Field this year, but the Club’s penultimate match at home in general for this regular season.
The other three matches at Citi Field were played against the following opponents this year:
Philadelphia Union (1-0, W).
FC Cincinnati (1-0, W).
New York Red Bulls (2-0, W).
Four goals have been scored in Queens this year, with none conceded.
As it stands, this season marks the fewest goals conceded at Citi Field, surpassing the previous record of two goals allowed in a single game in 2017.
The highest total came in 2023, when eight goals were conceded across seven games at Citi Field.
Matt Freese has recorded three shutouts on the Citi Field pitch in 2025, adding to his total of seven clean sheets when playing there all-time.
He is on a three-match clean sheet streak when at Citi Field, which is his longest string of consecutive shutouts while playing there in his career.
