NEW YORK (September 8, 2025) – Major League Soccer today announced disciplinary measures associated with incidents that occurred following the 2025 Leagues Cup Final between Seattle Sounders FC and Inter Miami CF. MLS has issued the following sanctions:
- Luis Suárez (Inter Miami CF) has been suspended for three MLS regular season games. Suarez will serve the three-match suspension on Sept. 13 (at Charlotte FC), Sept. 16 (vs. Seattle Sounders FC), and Sept. 20 (vs. D.C. United).
- Steven Lenhart (Seattle Sounders FC staff) has had his credential privileges revoked for the remainder of the 2025 MLS regular season and postseason. Lenhart will only be permitted in public seating areas during Seattle Sounders FC home matches and cannot be on or near the field of play, nor in or around the locker rooms, or tunnel. His access will again be reviewed ahead of the 2026 MLS season.
- Seattle Sounders FC have been fined an undisclosed amount for misappropriation of credentials.
Editor's Note: As prieviously put up here, various leagues do various things to their players for miscounduct in other games, yet representing their teams/league. Leagues Cup already put out what they were doing, some similar to these. We have inquired a few times now as to the Rules of Competition from Leagues Cup, nothing was replied to. Are those involved facing a double punishment or justice? I feel neither group dealt with this with enough of a punishment and both being silent for so long only made it worse.
