John Diffley, now the Deputy Athletics Dir. & COO at St. John's University is a past teammate of Nuttall with both having been on the aforementioned Long Island Rough Riders team that took the national title in 1995, the year before MLS. Diffley had this to say.
"Richie is an amazing person-a great coach, teammate and friend. His record as Hofstra's coach is outstanding: championships, great teams and outstanding players. But even more than that, Richie is a great person! I've been lucky to know him as a friend, and his positive impact on so many lives is immeasurable."
Diffley himself is no slouch as far as soccer goes, in fact if not for the success of the SJU Men's Bball team, was due to go to the Over 40 Soccer World Cup in Thailand. From the USMNT, Olympics, MLS (#27pick in history), Holland as a pro, USISL 1995 Champions and All-Star in 1994, he is in a trio of Halls of Fame and much more.
Knowing Diffley for many years, it does not surprise me to have him speak so glowingly of Nuttall.
