PHILADELPHIA UNION STRIKES EARLY TO DISMANTLE NY RED BULLS
CHESTER, PA – July 12, 2025 — The New York Red Bulls were outplayed in their 2–0 loss to the Philadelphia Union. The hosts wasted no time setting the tone, with Indiana Vassilev opening the scoring in just the 9th minute after capitalizing on a loose ball from a corner.
Fifteen minutes later, Bruno Damiani doubled the lead, finishing off a fluid sequence involving Quinn Sullivan and Tai Baribo. New York, meanwhile, failed to record a single shot on target in the opening half and struggled to gain rhythm in possession.
The second half saw a marginal improvement in energy, with Wikelman Carmona sending the team’s best chance over the bar in the 48th minute. Emil Forsberg was kept quiet by Philadelphia’s high press defense, and goalkeeper Andre Blake recorded his fifth clean sheet of the season.
Despite multiple substitutions, the Red Bulls couldn’t shift the momentum. The loss extends their struggles against Eastern Conference opponents and raises questions ahead of a pivotal stretch in the schedule.
FINAL SCORE: PHILADELPHIA UNION 2 – 0 NEW YORK RED BULLS
