My Bit on the NWSL & USL Super League Article

By Sean McCaffery, September 30, 2024
There are reasons I rarely share things written by others, not those tied to leagues or teams, but writers of other outlets, it has little or anything to do with preference or quality. I do feel as if they do not really flesh out the subject enough, this is not to say I do it better or write any better, I certainly do neither.
I shared an article on the USL Super League, the new D1 women's pro league. It was not due to inaccuracies that I add this, but incomplete details.
First, it considers them opposed to NWSL, both being top tier leagues it does make sense. No mention however made of the long mentioned MLS putting out a similar WOSO league.
It does have a quote from an unnamed NWSL GM as stating in reference to PLS, they do not think such a thing, another D1 league, would be done in MLS, yet then mentions directly, men's soccer. Why is it stated in 2 different fashions?
It leaves a great deal out of the PLS, in that yes, the main owner with a minimum 35% interest, must be worth at least $15million, that is without their interest in the league, team and primary residence. All told owners worth minus items listed must be $25 million. Why is this of importance the % and values of all and items not counted. As a for instance about 25% of my worth is tied up in an investment property, that I am sure it would have to be proven, that I do not live in it. No idea what happens in the case if you own and live a building with other units.
Another item I took issue with was the lack of really building out the lengthy history, decades long of the USL league head, in the industry. Full disclosure I have known her a number of years and feel she was a tremendous choice to head this new entity. I will just use bullet points to save time.
-She was a player, GK in college D1, inducted with her team to her HS Hall of Fame.
-Serves on the boards of many Global NFPs, AFD Global, Global Goals World Cup (we see her at their events often), etc.
-Amanda has been on the World Cup Advisory Board.
-Served as a member of the USC Foundation Committee.
-Quite the sought after speaker, the last 3 Women's World Cups and more.
-Honored by Sports Business Journal as a Game Changer in 2016.
-Just shy of decade with MLS, filling many high positions.
-HC of NYU WOSO team.
-Grad Asst. for the College of NJ.
-Holder of a USC Premier Diploma and a USSF B lic., (one I can't get).
-4 years as an instructor for FIFA Women's Football Development.
-FIFA Women's Leadership Development Program mentor.
-Chief Women's Football Officer at FIFPRO.
-She had been with the WPS.
I have always stated it is in fact difficult to find one with the academics, business and game experience I feel is needed to really be well rounded enough to take on such a role, she fits that bill to a T.
