Kang and Spirit get Magic
Michelle Kang who has been literally all over the map growing WOSO at a tremendous rate has now added an all-time great. Ervin “Magic” Johnson, now owning parts of 5 teams in various sports. This follows a growing trend of top athletes owning and buying into sports teams as investments. At times, Angel City, this works wonders, yet other teams with even a number of athletes involved, champions in various sports are not really gaining much of a benefit at the box office or on the field. It is big news for the team, league and sport of course and did deserve to be on a major TV program such as the morning show of one of their broadcast partners, CBS. How big of the piece of the team does he have was not disclosed and might he grow to join in her other interests, also unknown.
For his part, Magic said a few times that he is thankful for her allowing him to be her partner. Stating that it is a first class organization and how much the Spirit has helped WOSO, both on and off the field. He explained that this is part of his continuing to climb the ladder as he did in Basketball and of late in the business world, being an example and assist in growing the game and Spirit.
Michelle informed that in addressing the team and sport, she is honored by the commitment and legendary success on the court. His being known as a mentor to youth and more.
They had met in LA, they clicked as per Magic, as they had a great talk. With soccer already being the dominant sport and now exploding here, he finds it important to see minorities in ownership. He wants to continue assisting players after their careers and getting into business.
Michelle likened what transpired as Magic came to the NBA, the transformation, you were unable then, in 1979 to see the NBA Finals live on TV, that her league is now a bit ahead in that regard.
