NEW YORK (Wednesday, July 3, 2024) – Los Angeles Football Club midfielder Mateusz Bogusz was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Month for June 2024.
Bogusz was the primary catalyst for an LAFC squad that went unbeaten in the month of June (4-0-1), recording at least one goal contribution in each match this month and totaling nine goal contributions (six goals, three assists). His nine contributions in the month of June tied Columbus’ Cucho Hernández for the league lead, and he is currently tied with reigning Landon Donovan MLS MVP Luciano Acosta for the longest goal contribution streak in MLS this season at nine consecutive matches. Bogusz capped his stellar month with his first-career MLS hat trick on June 29 against the Colorado Rapids.
The 22-year-old is in the midst of a breakout season in his second full year with the club, recording 12 goals, including four game-winners, and five assists in 20 matches. Over his current nine-game goal contribution streak, the Polish midfielder has recorded nine goals and four assists, while helping LAFC go unbeaten over the same stretch (8-0-1). Bogusz has notched three goal contributions in consecutive matches against San Jose on June 22 (two goals, one assists) and Colorado on June 29 (three goals).
Bogusz is the fourth different player in LAFC history to win Player of the Month, joining Denis Bouanga, Adama Diomande, and Carlos Vela (three times). He is the first LAFC player to take home the honors since teammate Denis Bouanga in October 2023. Since entering the league in 2018, LAFC’s six total Player of the Month awards are tied with Atlanta United for the most in MLS over the span and the four different players to be honored are the most in the league over the span. Bogusz joins Piotr Nowak (May 1998) as the only Polish players in MLS history to win the award.
LAFC sits atop the Western Conference with 40 points (12-4-4) and will face off in one of the most anticipated El Tráfico matches in history as they face second-place LA Galaxy (40 points, 11-3-7) at the historic Rose Bowl on July 4 (10:30 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV).
MLS Player of the Month is voted upon by a panel of select national media members in a process conducted by MLS Communications.
