After a scoreless first half, New England took the lead through a 53rd minute goal from Tommy McNamara. It was their only shot on goal for the night.

It only took five minutes for the Red Bulls to get back on level terms, though, when Elias Manoel set up Cristian Cásseres Jr. for his second goal of the season.

The Red Bulls dominated the game with 57.1% possession and 12 shots, compared to only four for New England.

A disallowed Luquinhas goal kept the match level at 1-1, but VAR awarded the Red Bulls a penalty when the referee missed Lewis Morgan getting pulled down in the box in the 78th minute.

Morgan converted from the spot for his 14th goal of the season to give New York a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish.

With the win, their fifth home win of the season, New York now open a four point gap to fourth-place NYCFC and are within striking distance of clinching a playoff spot.

The Red Bulls will now travel to Yankee Stadium on September 17 to take on their New York derby rival. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
