Yes, the local NWSL team lost a USWNT player in Mal Pugh but now have secured the services of McCall Zerboni for the next pair of years, the team holds an option on a 3rd for the now 34 year old. She had some time with the USWNT and has plied her trade locally over the last year. During the Challenge Cup, she played the full of the games in her 5 starts, completing an impressive 78% of her passes, with an assist in leading the team to the semis. Her season came to a crashing halt with a torn meniscus during those games, spending the season in rehab. She already has a pair of NWSL titles.
McCall told "Despite the challenges and changes of the 2020 season that all of us in the NWSL had to bear through, I still really enjoyed this past year with my new club. I am proud to be a Sky Blue player and am super motivated and hungry to continue to achieve more with this squad."
SBFC HC Freya Coombe informed "McCall had a big impact on the team last year and we are thrilled to extend her contract. She has a fiercely competitive nature and tremendous experience in the game in addition to her great leadership skills. These attributes combined with her technical ability and tactical knowledge made this extension a focus for us this off season."
GM Alyse LaHue added "McCall has very quickly become a backbone for our club. She is an important element of our continued growth for what she brings to the pitch and all the intangibles she provides to those around her. It was important for us to take this opportunity to re-up her contract and we are happy for her continued leadership"
