From USMNT player to now the longest tenured HC in MLS, Peter has been busy today. Following the draw for the MLS is Back Tourney, shown on the big screen at his home field of Children's Mercy Park, he next did a presser from the field, then this. As ever the auido is not perfect in such things so I am sure I missed a great deal of things. He is glad to be back at it and looks forward very much to getting to games at Disney. He feels that yes, it will be a challenge for his team, but no different than that of all other teams as they are all headed into the same situation. As to the allowance of 5 subs per game, he felt that is more important here than say Europe as there are far more teams in cold weather cities travelling to the heat and humidity of Orlando in July. The subs should help give more players a spell but 5 is almost half those on the field and it would impact the balance, rythmn etc. of the game. The loss of Gutierrez due to injury is a big loss, however he has full and complete confidence in those behind him on the depth chart. He feels the team is in good shape physically but they do need to better find their form and gain match fitness. Peter was very self deprciating when asked about playing before no fans and made reference to early MLS games and his time with the USMNT, I was quick to remind him of a few locations of their games I attended when he played for the USA. In watching the draw for the coming games on the Facebook of Soccer Long Island Magazine, a certain Jimmy Conrad was all over the coments section cheering for SKC, I was assured that Conradinho is in fact not on the team payroll, but will forever be a part of the team. Vermes is the most tenured of all MLS coaches, in his group, not a one has a full year with their charges, the Rapids coach Robin Fraser joined in the latter part of last season, all others have 2 games if that under their belts with their current teams. He thought that may not be so much of an advantage as there is most times a bump as a new coach in town and players wanting to redouble their efforts in putting their best foot forward.
