What a long strange trip it has beeen for Leonard Owusu from his town of Accra and their team Dreams FC, to the mid east and the Israeli Premier League's FC Ashdod, now for Canada and the MLS with Vancouver. A quick 2 year term with Ashdod then off to MLS has yet another from Ghana playing in the league. The central midfielder was signed via TAM for a contract of 2 years and an option of one.
'Caps Sporting Director Axel Schuster informed " Leonard is focused on improving and moving forward in his career step-by-step. He is from a very good academy in Ghana, performed well playing abroad in Israel, and now is the right time for him to take on a new challange in Vancouver. We are looking forward to having Leonard join our group."
Vancouver HC Marc Dos Santos added " Leonard is a player with a lot of potential. He was an important player at Dreams FC, in Ghana, before going to Israel. We believe that he has the tools to succeed in this league."
Owsusu stated "I'm very excited to join Whitecaps FC, it's a great honor for me to wear the Blue & White and become part of the family. I would like to thank Mr. Schuster and Mr. Dos Santos for their efforts, and I can't wait to repay their faith in me with my play on the pitch."
Still just 22 the age of most drafted into the MLS, he had been with FC Ashdod sincce July of 2018, first it was to be a one year loan, then a permanent transfer from his hometown Dreams FC. He had 46 league games and a bakers dozen in the Israel State Cup and Toto Cup games. At 5'11" he beagan with Dreams FC and 2x helped his team to promotion to the Ghana Premier League. 2018 saw him named the MVP of the Ghana League Clubs Assoc. G8 Tourny, while wearing the captains armband for Friends FC, they took the title as he hit the GWG. His last year there, he had 5 goals and assists over 10 games, great numbers. then off to the top tier in Israel with Ashdod.
