Torrent is 1.5 & Out With NYCFC

By Sean McCaffery, November 8, 2019

The writing on the wall may have been there for a bit, word of his being unhappy that it took him so long to get Heber. I was not there for the whole of the post TFC game presser, when he was said to have referred to the team as "they/them', if stated while I was present, I missed it. During this presser, an early question was met with a question, not the way to deal with anyone, but after a loss such as that, it is a bit understandable. Now the team enters it's 6th year and seeking the 4th coach, 1.5 seasons average per is not the way to find stability. That Viera left for a higher level is actually a good thing, then you land an assistant to Pep for quite some time, a good replacement, now he is out, with no word as yet to his new destination. Should first time Head Coaches pass by as a rite of passage will not bode well for the future, the players not knowing who is up next. That they "have mutually agreed to part ways", has been heard before and rarely is accurate.

Arriving on the heels of the departure of Patrick Viera, Domenec Torrent brought them to 3rd place following his hiring in June of 2018, as for 2019. tops in the Conference with a bye in the first round of the playoffs, the highest point total in team history and earliest qualifying for the playoffs, not bad feathers in your cap and gerat reasons for your team to do their all to keep you. But then out of the playoffs in spectacular fashion. Dome had been under the City Football Group umbrella since 2016 on the staff of Pep Guardiola and Manchester City. Joining him out the door are assts. Albert Puig & Jordi Gris, Dir. of Performance Francesc Cos, and Head of Performance, Ismael Camenforte. A group also left the coaching staff when Viera departed, hardly atypical as the top man leaves.

Torrent stated "While I've greatly enjoyed coaching NYCFC & the incredible life experience of living in New York, in mutual discussion with the club, I feel this is the right time For myself and my family to look for other opportunities as I develop my career as a Head Coach."

Team Vice Chair. Marty Eldeman said "I'd like to sincerely thank Dome and the coaches for their hard work since joining NYCFC . With Dome leading the team, we had an excellent regular season and we were extremely proud to finish top of the Eastern Conference."

The club would like to sincerely thank all 5 departing coaches for their hard work and commitment, and wish them every success in their future coaching endeavors.
