New inductees for this HOF will be Susan Ellis & John Kerr Jr. of Chapel Hill, Sandra Serafini of Durham, Duke University's Men's Program & the 1996 Greensboro United Soccer Association Navy Capture Girls soccer team to the National Champions Hall of Honor within the HOF. The 22nd edition of this event takes place Jan. 26 at the Marriott Winston-Salem. now for the inductees:
SUSAN ELLIS: From high school, college, national team and now in an over 50 league it all lead to her passion, coaching. To this point she has mentored thousands of girls at a variety of age and skill levels. She went as a highly recruited player to UNC Chapel Hill where in her first year, they took the initIal AIAW National Championship. Her soph. season saw the NCAA start a women's championships for soccer and she then led them to the first 3. 1984 and out of college, on to the USWNT and coaching the Raliegh Wings pro team taking the USL D1 title in 1998 & '99. The Carolina Courage with her then went from worst in 2002 to first in 2003 in the WUSA, she now teaches and coaches at Durham Academy and has won 5 conference titles.
JOHN KERR Jr. Like his father before him, played professionally here and overseas, with Canada, England, France and Northern Ireland on his resume, this Blue Devil who earned the MAC Hermann trouphy in 1986 was also a 2x All-American for Duke, 1986 was a banner year for the captain as he lead his team to the NCAA title. His totals of 42G, 43A for 127 points still has him in the top 5 in these categories. WIth the USMNT he earned 16 caps getting 2 goals and now is the HC of the Duke Men's Team. John won the 1984 James P Mcguire Cup with the Montgomery United and in the Duke off season with the team of his father they took the 1986 National Amateur Cup with the Fairfax Spartans. We knew the late John Kerr Sr. and have met Jr. on a number of occasions both great soccer people.
SANDRA SERAFINI: A USSF ref in 1998 and National Intercollegiate ref in 1999, the, was the first from NC to be onthe FIFA Panel of Women Referees from 2006-'09. A native of Canada, she became a ref in WA, then relocated to NC in 2000 and advanced in the ranks of refereeing, representing NC at the regional and national levels often. 2004 saw her earn the NCYSA/NCSRA Adult Referee of the Year Award, also reognized with TISOA's William Utter Service Award and NISOA's Regional Referee of the Year Award. Under her belt are many college conference finals, NCAA Final Four's , men and women domestic pro leagues, international events in North America, Europe & Asia, she has seen the world and refereed it. Now with PRO as Dir. of Strategic Initiatives and Innovation and a co manager of the Developmen group. Sandra is a board member of TISOA and DIr. of Education for several years now.
DUKE UNIV. MEN'S SOCCER PROGRAM: Establsihed in 1930, they played in the NCAA final games in 1982, 1986 & 1995. In 1986 under coach John Rennie they bested Akron 1-0 in taking the title.
1996 GREENSBORO UNITED SOCCER ASSOCIATION NAVY CAPTURE GIRL'S SOCCER TEAM: they achivied the USYSA Presidents CUp U-15 Girl's national championship in 2012.
