New Year, New HC @ USMNT U-20's, they crossed to Hudson

By Sean McCaffery, January 9, 2020

The newly appoointed HC is Anthony Hudson, he had been the top man already at just 32 of the New Zeland & Bahrain MNT's, lastly with the Colorado Rapids of MLS. His coaching career already spans a dozen years, while heading the Kiwis, he was the youngest HC in the history of the FIFA Confederations Cup getting the All Whites to the 2016 OFC Nations Cup. The holder of a UEFA Pro Lic. he seems to be a tremendous addition to the coaching staff at the USSF.

USSF Sporting DIrector Earnie Stewart had this to say "We're excited to bring Anthony on-board to lead our U-20 Men's National Team as it prepares for this summer's Concacaf Championship. We believe that Anthony's experience in the international game and at the club level make him a great choice."

Out of the Pacific NorthWest, Seattle, he truly began at the grassrootes of US soccer before entering the international stage following time with sides in the UK, Wales & England. He would toss his hat into the international ring with the Bahrain U-23 MNT, then the full national team in Aug. 2013. Anthony was then off half a world away to New Zeland and the Oceania Football Confederation. The Kiwis are a strong team in their region and he all but got the to the promised land, the World Cup, before they dropped the inter-confederation game to Peru, then in 2017, again the youngest HC, this time in Rapids history in 2017.

Hudson informed "I'm very proud to be joining US Soccer. I can't wait to wait to work with them and help develop these players into contributors at the highest level."

First up with the NT, is the IMG Academy and a camp where the USMNT have been for nearly a month and the Red BUlls just arrived. There they will prep for the Concacaf U-20 Championship, with Costa RIca, Jamaica & St Kitts&Nevis for the group stage. They are out for their 3rd straight U-20 title asĀ  they took the first pair in 2017 & 2018. Anthony's charge is to do all with his team as he is to ease transitiions up from the U-18 & 19's to get the best read on placement of those in these teams in practice and game situations pre World Cup.

His playing career had him with the academy of EPL team West Ham Utd., he was then on to Eredivisie team NEC Nijmegen, 2006 back to the states with the USL Willmington Hammerheads as a player- coach. Putting his toe in the waters of full HC was also within the USL with the Real Maryland Monarchs then, Tottenhams Hotspurs reserves and a 5th level team in Wales with Newport County.
