NCFC set to fete Captain Austin de LUz Oct. 19

The season finale facing St Louis will see a celebration for the career of the captain of the home team NCFC post game. de Luz let it be known in August that he intends to hang up his cleats at the end of the season. This will be his 10th season as a pro, 8 of which have been with NCFC, he is top 5 in games with 184, minutes an astounding 13,178, his goals total 23 with 18 assists, this numbers are across all games as he had an influence in the midfield the whole while. Out of Wake Forest with some time with Red Bulls and DC United of the MLS in 2010-'11, his arrrival in NC was impactful from the get go, he helped lead them to the 2012 semis in the NASL. 2012 & '13 again he led them far into playoffs as they got to the 4th round and quaters respectively in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, in the quarters, he scored facing the LA Galaxy in their 2-0 loss to NCFC. He has the most minutes of active players and is the 6th in club history to surpass the 10,000 minute milestone. Last year was a banner year for him as he set or tied personl bests in games with 34, his minutes with 2,880 and half a dozen goals that year had him as co-captain, this, captain. Playing for Pride, a global fundraiser for the Human Rights Campaign was founded by Austin, this had him named Humanitarian of the Year for the NASL in 2017. WIth his status as a pro athlete he has brought in over $60,000 for Playing for Pride.
