NCFC Fills out Staff with McGinty

By Sean McCaffery, January 2, 2020

Always good to have the Irish on your staff and Mike McGinty is just that as an asst. now to Dave Sarachan in Cary. The newest addition to the USL Championship club had an 8 year pro career as a goalkeeper and knows NC from his time playing as well as coaching. He comes off the 2019 U-17 World Cup where he was the US GK coach. An alum of Wake Forest, he has taken the spot left by Clint Peay who departed to be the first HC for USL League One team, Revolution.

Sarachan had this to say "When you look at Mike's resume, he's a guy who's accumulated a lot of good experience as a head coach and an assistant coach. Mike is a dediicated hard worker who's very good at his craft and spends a lot of time studying the game. "

HC at St. Louis Univ. from 2010-'17, Mike rang up a 81-56-14 record, tabbed as Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year thrice, 2012,'13 & '16 while his charges advanced to the NCAA's in 2012 & '14, taking the A-10 Tourney title in 2012. NCFC foward, Robert Kristo played for him from 2011-'14, leading the team in scoring.

Of NCFC Mcginty informed "I know the club and what it's done over the years. the people at the club were most important to me. Curt is someone I've known for a number of years, and I've known Dave Sarachan for a number of years." A key player for the Deamon Deacons from 1991-'94, this ex-All-ACC GK then went on to his pro career with the Greensboro Dynamo 1995-'96, Richmond Kickers 1997-'02 and DC United in 2000. Even as he played, McGinty began as an asst. at Wake Forest 1995-'96 then on to VA Commonwealth U. as GK coach in 1997. Onto UVA and the staff of legendary George Gelnovatch's, first as an asst., then as an assoc. HC, they took the NCAA title in 2009, reached 2 College Cups and secured a quartet of ACC rings during his tenure.

This is long term coach with vastly different experiences, he had a great run with the various NT's, 2001-'02 he was with the US U-17 & 18 NTs,  as well as from 2018-'19 with the U-17 & 20 Paralympic NTs. As he comes into the fold, the team is still building out the roster for the coming season.
