Last years' 2nd place team in the NWSL hosted local team Sky Blue beating them in added time 1-0. Jessica McDonald, a 2nd half addition for the victors found the back of the net as the undefeated Courage at 2-0-0 kept the NJ team winless on the year. Long Island legend and NC coach, Paul Riley stated "The game grinds on you. I think they worked hard." With a massive advantage in shots taken 22-3 the Courage were goaless as full time approached and passed even with many great chances. Jaelene Hinkle put an end to that as she sent Jessica a ball between the Sky Blue defenders, she passed by the 'keeper then hit an empty net for their second 1-0 win of the year. Lynn Williams had a trememndous opportunity in the 17th minute as the forward finished off her long run but not her shot as it went wide right. Again in the 43rd minute it was Lynn who chipped the netinder, this time it was played of the line. In the 2nd half the Courage really put their stamp on the game. Kristen Hamilton from her forward position came oh so near to breaking the ice, but her low shot careened off the post. Jessica came in at the 55th minute and was an immediate threat as 2 miniutes later she also was again unable to get a goal for her team.
