My Take on the USSF/USWNT Deal

By Sean McCaffery, February 22, 2022

It took a trio of years for the pair of parties to reach an agreement, it is as I see it full of holes, much like a goal net. So much information and misinformation has been out there and remains. The movie LFG, left so much out, the fact that the USSF did not comment, a good thing, the one sidedness of it not so good.

That this comes the month before the presidential election is not a surprise, yes, Carlos stepped down over not reading a legal statement put out, but so too did his VP, who then took the Pres. seat, she a former player on the team. Was it for legal purposes that it was worded as such, well it is called a "legal battle" for a reason. I have been in many court cases and strong statements are made to push each side, hurtful at times, accurate in the legal world, I am not an attorney. However for both parties to not read it, a joke, for one to step down and the next assume the post... At these positions, the USSF should pay for a personal type of attorney to review things, not even of the same firm as the ones the federation retains. to avert just such events.

To just go through the Press release, we already posted, a shared commitment to advance equality in soccer is so vague, and hardly delineated.

$24,000,000 is a large sum of money, how much has been spent in legal fees to get to this point. I have long stated that must be a high figure and that they should settle rather than put more money toward this legal battle.

That this decision would be final once the next CBA is ratified, it was just extended until the end f March, makes no sense to me as they are separate and unique items, again not an attorney.

How the USSF can set equal pay on WC monies is beyond me, FIFA pays out that money and it would cost big bucks to the federation to make up the difference between the men's and women's sides.

Great that is is approved but not really over, you have a proposed sum that should not be affected by the CBA but the terms will surely be impacted.

Not enough has been made known of the monies coming in, comparing the benefits the USWNT have that the MNT does not. Yes the WNT is far more successful, play more games, but this needs to be a decision based on dollars, not success, yes pay for advancing, winning, but to be equal if the income is not?

Please, let it not be lost that this comes some two weeks in front of the Presidential election for the USSF, even with that, I do feel is should have been settled in advance of the SheBelieves Cup, getting more mileage on this each and every match to be played as this new accord is addressed.
