COLUMBUS, OHIO (July 23, 2024) – Major League Soccer today announced that Towa Bird and Majo Aguilar will perform the National Anthems at the MLS All-Star Game presented by Target on Wednesday, July 24 at Lower.com Field in Columbus. Prior to the best of MLS taking on the LIGA MX All-Stars, Towa Bird will perform the National Anthem of the United States, and Majo Aguilar will perform the National Anthem of Mexico.
Towa Bird will perform the National Anthem entirely on the electric guitar. The 25-year-old singer/songwriter recently launched her debut album American Hero to critical acclaim and continues to gain momentum with fans with her exhilarating live performances. Rolling Stone said, “Towa Bird is the rock & roll firecracker we need right now,” and Vogue called her “Gen Z’s Joan Jett.” Towa has named Jimmy Page, Joan Jett, Jimi Hendrix, and Prince among her all-time favorite guitarists, and said that she began honing her one-of-a-kind musicality by playing along to records by The Kinks and The Who.
Performing the Mexican National Anthem (“Himno Nacional Mexicano”) is Mexican-born singer and songwriter Maria Jose “Majo” Aguilar. Following the tradition of Mexican music, Majo Aguilar debuted in 2021 with her ranchera style album Mi Herencia, Mi Sangre. The granddaughter of Mexican music legends Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre, Majo Aguilar was born to shine as one of the female stars of Mexican music.
The 2024 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target kicks off at 8 p.m. ET at Lower.com Field in Columbus, and fans can watch the match in over 100 countries and regions around the world on MLS Season Pass through the Apple TV app.
