NEW YORK (Monday, June 23, 2025) – Following an undefeated run in group play, Inter Miami CF have advanced to the knockout stage of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. With a 2-2 tie against Brazilian giant Palmeiras tonight, Inter Miami CF finish group play with one win and two ties (1-0-2, 5 pts.), taking second place in Group A. Next Up: Round of 16 Inter Miami CF will next face reigning UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, June 29 in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium (12 p.m. ET). Lionel Messi will be facing his former club, PSG, for the first time since joining Inter Miami CF in 2023. Despite Miami going ahead by two goals, Palmeiras rallied late, getting goals from Paulinho and Maurício to snatch the draw and first place in Group A.
History Made Through their historic group play run, Inter Miami CF became the first MLS team to defeat a UEFA opponent, when they defeated FC Porto of Portugal 2-1 earlier in the group stage. Inter Miami is also now the first MLS team ever to advance to the knockout round of the FIFA Club World Cup. Miami Chasing More Hardware In just their sixth season, Inter Miami CF are already putting together an impressive résumé in international competition. The club has participated in two Concacaf Champions Cups, reaching the semifinals this year after a quarterfinal run in 2024. The Herons also took home the inaugural Leagues Cup title in 2023 during the first edition of the competition between MLS and LIGA MX. Inter Miami qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup following their 2024 Supporters’ Shield performance in MLS play, earning the title as the best team through the regular season last year.
