NEW YORK CITY FC HEAD COACH PASCAL JANSEN
On Forward Agustín Ojeda’s development as a player and person... “The man and the player, yeah, that’s a good way of putting it because he is maturing in a bigger sense. Obviously when he came to New York, he was still a kid, a young boy. He’s married now, you can see he’s enjoying life, he’s maturing. And that’s also something you can see in his game because when we started last season, you could see a lot of good things, a lot of potential, but low outcome. That’ssomething we’ve been dealing with since we started working together, and you can see the growth. Hopefully he can continue like he started this season.”
On New York City FC’s mindset heading into the next match... “We’re confident going into this game because we’re coming off some strong performances in several areas. We know what it is that we need to do better in these coming games. So there’s an opportunity for us to show that we can be better and will be better against Montreal. That’s the attitude and the mindset we have going into the next game.”
NEW YORK CITY FC FORWARD AGUSTÍN OJEDA
On how he’s feeling about his season so far... “Individually, I’m happy to be able to help the team in a way that maybe last year I didn’t have, which is getting into goal-scoring positions, making assists, and having more involvement. As a group, though, we’re a bit down because of the results we’ve been having. I think in the last three matches we deserved to win. On the field, you can see we dominate the first half, and that leaves us a bit disappointed when the result ends up being negative. But we have to keep trying, keep training during the week to contribute, and tomorrow try to get a win, which is the most important thing.”
On what needs to change to get a positive result... “Obviously every match we try to make the result positive. We always try to be protagonists on the field, to start strong in the first 10 or 15 minutes, which are important to settle into the game and bring it to a point that favors us. Talking about tomorrow’s match, it’s important because we’re coming from a game that we could have won but it slipped away at the end. It’s important to stay mentally strong, to manage the game in our favor, and change that mindset so that if there are only a few minutes left and we’re winning, we can play in our favor and take the victory. I think we’ve been playing well, and tomorrow is a key moment to improve in that area.”
