Matt Lewis pre DCFC

By Sean McCaffery, September 4, 2020

By now the game has been postponed, and rescheduled for this Wed. they had a game postponed during Cup play, thus far no word on it so why wait. In that we had not seen each other I of course began with checking on how he and his have been during this very odd year of 2020 relative to the Coronavirus crisis, thankfully all back in KC are fine in that regard.

Then we got into the nitty gritty of the chit chat, things soccer related. He began on loan to Detroit City FC, but when the virus really began to hit, it was back to KC for him where he would then wait it out. He like the rest of us had to be careful as far as what needed to be done, although he was unable to train and had to be leery of going anywhere, it was not easy to keep up the motivation. It was hardly the time for soccer and sports in general. Things began to look up when it was told very early on by the team that they wee looking at getting going in June, now there was a point, a goal to strive for .

He thought the preseason was good  with lots of energy and the Cosmos began to train in small groups of 6-7 players at a time, although there was no locker room access for showers post game, there was no laundry being done on the players behalf, but all did get more gear, even treatment was given outside.

His thoughts on the Cup were that they had poor results, not much of a surprise given the lack of a regular pre season, it was not good as there was a Cup on the line, but it was good for the amatuer teams to get exposure to the pros.

As to the season, there was a good start to it, it was good to beat New Amsterdam and get all the points to go with the 3 goals. The win in Warwick he feels will be able to help in building confidence. He informed that with the season being so short, there is no room for error.

HIs time in Detroit was good, he found it to be a nice place, he was exposed to good stuff it is run professionaly. Matt thought their home stadium would have been a cool place to play, but sadly that was not in the cards. Coach certainly knows what he is doing there.

As to his headed goal, he felt vinidcated as he had put the team into a tight spot, that the goal got the team rolling to an extent. They have confidence on set pieces, the movement of the ball caused the opponent to lose their marks and any of the 3 or 4 from his team were right there to send it home. It was a great service and all he was left to do was to pick his spot to put the ball.

He wanted to pass along this message in these decisive times, we need to be nicer as a community to learn to tolerate and be cautious in our comments and overall.
