NEW YORK CITY & MEXICO CITY (Friday, September 5, 2025) – The Leagues Cup Organizing Committee today announced the Disciplinary Committee decisions following the Leagues Cup Final played on August 31, 2025, between Seattle Sounders FC and Inter Miami CF.
- Following the conclusion of the match, Inter Miami CF player Luis Suárez was reported by the Match Officials for spitting at a Seattle Sounders coaching staff member. In accordance with Article 4.2.C of the Leagues Cup 2025 Competition Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee has issued a six-match suspension to Suárez. He will, at least, be ineligible to participate in the next edition of Leagues Cup until the six-match suspension is fully served.
- Following the conclusion of the match, Inter Miami CF player Sergio Busquets was reported by the Match Officials for violent conduct. In accordance with Article 4.2.C of the Leagues Cup 2025 Competition Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee has issued a two-match suspension to Busquets.
- Following the conclusion of the match, Inter Miami CF player Tomás Avilés was reported by the Match Officials for violent conduct. In accordance with Article 4.2.C of the Leagues Cup 2025 Competition Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee has issued a three-match suspension to Avilés.
- Following the conclusion of the match, Seattle Sounders coaching staff member Steven Lenhart was reported by the Match Officials for violent conduct. In accordance with Article 4.2.C of the Leagues Cup 2025 Competition Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee has issued a five-match suspension to Lenhart.
In accordance with the Leagues Cup Regulations, all four individuals sanctioned will also receive fines as a result of their conduct.
All suspensions must be served in the next edition or editions of Leagues Cup until fully completed.
Editor's Note: I have no idea why this took so long, many other wrong doeers are getting off unscathed. So many had no idea of how this would pan out. I stated it will most likely go into future such games, oh no, what do you know it will be in MLS I was told.. Why on earth would MLS suspend people from a competition that is not theirs? At times harsh things such as violent conduct and abuse of the ref are done ASAP, not this time it seems. I have watched tthe entireity of the incident a few times. There were many choke holds being used, red card each and everytime, going to the head and face was very frequent, many are getting off scott free.
