Midfielder delighted to seal brace in Argyle win

Josh Laurent described it as a proud moment to grab his first goals for the Clarets in a memorable win and scintillating display at Home Park on Wednesday night.

Burnley were five goals ahead at half-time thanks to Zian Flemming's double, Laurent's magnificent first-time strike into the top corner and close range header, with Josh Cullen rounding off the scoring with his first goal of the season deep into first half stoppage time.

Speaking post-match, Laurent said: “I have missed some sitters this season for the boys, so I’m really happy to get my first goals for the Club. It’s a proud moment to be honest.

“Hopefully I can kick on now and get a few more to contribute with the other lads. I know the tactics well and our pattern, so I always back myself to get on the end of one.

“I missed one against Stoke from a similar distance a few weeks ago, so it was good to get a couple tonight and execute the movement of play."

Laurent admitted that a clinical night in front of goal was pending for the Clarets and the 29-year-old was more than pleased to see his teammates find the back of the net on a handful of occasions.

"It’s something that has probably been coming for a while now and it’s something that we have wanted and worked hard on.

“Everyone knows we need to be more clinical in front of goal, so it was really pleasing not only for ourselves and the coaches, but for the fans as well."

It was a breath-taking first 45 minutes in Devon and Laurent was keen to highlight the work that the Head Coach and his coaching staff put in to produce the gameplan to the team.

“The coaching staff work tirelessly with us throughout the week on tactics, formations, set-pieces and patterns of play.

“The team were clinical in executing all of that tonight. We were every bit of what we wanted and needed to be tonight and it’s a pleasing night for us.”

The team's focus now turns to Monday night's clash with Leeds United and the former Stoke City man said: “It shows the mentality of the group. Tonight was the most important thing for us, to come away from Plymouth with all three points and that's what we have done.

“Next up for us now is Monday night, we will rest and recover and then prepare like we do for every game for the rest of the week."
