In this 1st webinar (to be conducted in English), we are honored to have joining us Puerto Rico football legend and Hall of Fame inductee Ana (Anita) Rabell and international footballer Adriana (Tuti) Tirado on a powerful introductory conversation about the personalities, business, sporting excellence, and culture of Puerto Rican women’s football today.
Rabell and de Cuba Romero were members of the first PRWNT, which in 1998 became the first of any Puerto Rican side to break into the CONCACAF Championship / FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, playing three matches at that year’s qualifying tournament in Etobecoke, Canada. Rabell as a footballer and later as an administrator has worked tirelessly to help propel Puerto Rican women’s football into a movement of explosive growth where women and girls play the game in leagues with categories from U5 to the First Division; student athletes play in Puerto Rico’s scholastic programs league and in US colleges; talented players like Tirado are discovered, developed and now play internationally; and the national team continues to rise in world rankings.
Tirado is an exciting, skillful and brilliant midfielder for the Puerto Rico National Team who – after playing in the United States collegiate system (NCAA Division 1) – plays internationally and continues to develop into a highly respected top footballer.
The Athens Women’s Football Summit (AthensWFS) is the year-round global home of the girls’ and women’s Beautiful Game at all levels. This series serves our worldwide mission to celebrate exciting developing programs such as all levels of the Puerto Rico Women’s National Team and its intrepid heroines – and supports our efforts to empower girls and women and grow women’s football in Latin America and in Latino populations globally.
