Gotham Looks to Extend Winning

By Sean McCaffery, May 21, 2021

A 1-0 game in their first game under the new moniker, a win on the strength of Midge Purce and a great run and finish, they are  now off to Chicago for the Red Stars. the home side were hammered 5-0 by the next opponent of Gotham, Portland, adding injury to that insult, the loss of Julie Ertz is worse than one defeat. The game is being shown on Paramount in the stats and Twitch elsewhere from 7.

Last Saturday in the friendly confines of Red Bull Arena, Gotham held on for a win facing the deep Houston Dash team, as fully half a dozen cautions were issued in a rough affair. Purce is quite the sparkplug of late having a foot in half the teams last dozen goals with 4 goals and a pair of assists, garnering her the NWSL Player of he Week award.

Sheridan in her first game back from injury seems me than poised to reclaim her position among the league's elite netminders as she came up big again and again while Houston kept up the offensive pressure following the 30' strike of Purce. The team has not lost in regulation over the last 7 games, equaling their run in 2014-'15.

Though they may still be shell shocked, Chicago have but a single loss over their last 8 home league games, going back to Sept. 2019. Gotham took the match in the Fall Series 3-1 at home, the Red Stars are well in control overall  as they have only lost once over the last 10 games with Gotham at home.

May 30 they have a rematch with the Thorns, who took the 2021 Challenge Cup over Gotham, next up on June 5 are OL Reign at 7 p.m. ET.

Do no forget when you see us to say hi.
