CARY, N.C. (Jan. 31, 2024) — The North Carolina Courage has loaned Danish forward Mille Gejl (Jensen) to Montpellier HSC of the French Division 1 Féminine, the club announced Wednesday. The loan is effective immediately and carries through June of 2024, at which time Montpellier will have the option to purchase the contract outright.
Gejl saw action in 15 regular season matches in 2023, scoring twice. She scored the opening goal of the Courage season, the winner in a 1-0 result over the Kansas City Current on March 25. She also had an assist in 502 minutes of play. She played in three UKG Challenge Cup matches, scoring once to help the Courage repeat as champions.
“We wish Mille all the best in this opportunity with Montpellier. We were fully supportive of her throughout this process and wanted to ensure she was comfortable. She is a young, talented player who we hope to see thrive in France. We will continue to follow her on her journey this season and look forward to seeing her progression throughout. We are incredibly grateful for her efforts in helping us win a trophy last year and for all she gave here with the Courage in 2023,” said Courage Head Coach Sean Nahas.
Gejl will no longer count towards the active Courage roster nor require an international spot. The team now has 31 players on the preseason roster, including 25 under contract, and is utilizing three of six available international spots.
Montpellier sits fifth in the Division 1 Féminine table with 19 points through 13 fixtures. Gejl will be eligible for roster in Montpellier’s next match on February 3 away at Dijon.
