Furlong takes a forever furlough

As of Dec. 31, 2019, John Furlong will no longer be a Whitecap, Co-owner Jeff Mallett will take the title of Executive Chair for the time being, this role had John as a major player in guidance of team ownership and senior staff. Mallet, also a director since 2009, will take the post, solidifying his spot as the face of the ownership team that includes Greg Kerfoot, Steve Luczo & Steve Nash.

Furlong informed "I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Whitecaps FC and look forward to supporting the club as it builds on its formidable base of support in our comunity and acoss the province."

Mallet shared "As 2020 approaches, we are entering an exciting new era on and off the pitch. As executive chair, I will continue to help guide out team toward our visionĀ  of making Whitecaps FC one of the preeminent organizations in Major League Soccer, We are excited about 2020 and can't wait to get started."

For the last 10 years, Mallet had also been a govenor on the MLS board, currently a committee member in business, media and new ventures for the league, From North Vancouver BC he had been a principle partner of the San Francisco Giants of MLS, co-owner and director Derby County FC from 2009-'15 and the founding president and COO of Yahoo from 1995-2002.
