By Sean McCaffery, July 5, 2019

A new club record of goals scored in a half was achived at home by the Fire with all coming in the first time frame while defeating the reigning MLS champions in a big way. The team should hope this is the shape of things to come, as just days before in Red Bull Arena they looked like anything but the expected victor of this game.  Another team record was equaled by Nicolas Gaitan as he had 3 assists to match the record, he had a foot in 4 out of the 5 goals, the Fire are now unbeaten at home going 5-0-2 in this stretch, dating back to March 30, road wins would have them in the thick of things.

At the 4' mark they opened their account on the day with Calvo getting on the end of the corner by Gaitan, heading it home for his 2nd goal with the team and the 6th asist of the year for Gaitan.  3' later, Gaitan fed Sapong with a pass behind the defensive line of Atlanta, CJ sent his right footed foray between the legs of GK Brad Guzan for his first brace with the team. 9' later a pk on Pirez from a ball by Katai had Pirez sent off as it was on a goal scoring opportunity, Gaitan went to the left corner as Guzan went right, 3-0. The last 10' had the Fire get another pair of goals with Gaitan feeding Sapong again, then 7' later Calvo fed Herbers. At 56' Atlanta pulled one back while a man down, no easy task, a pk as Robinson was taken to the ground in the area by Frankowski.
