FCC Has Big Plans for Their Biggest Game

By Sean McCaffery, April 22, 2020

In an earlier post, we glossed over the re airing of the first home game against the Portland Timbers, they had played in a recent MLS CUp Final and had a great team looking to get back to that, yet they were shutout against this first year team before a sold out crowd of 32,250, well above what would be their season average of 27,336, great for 3rd in the league, amazing for a first year team in the league and beyond the capaciity of some stadiums including Red Bull Arena, perhaps the best SSS in the league. Re live all of this and more Saturday at 6 p.m. on Star64, rebroadcast on fccincinati.com in the their market and a 2nd screen event on Facebook.

This game had it all, a racous crowd, Kendall Watson, Allan Cruz & Mathieu Deplagne all struck for the hosts and Spencer Richey was not to be denied the clean sheet. This win set them on the path for what would be amongst the best ever first month for a team in MLS lore, going 2-1-1, equalling the ATL UTD for the 2nd best first quartet of games to start in the league. "The Buffalo Wings & RIngs Second Screen Experience" returns for this monumental game, this is going to be on the Facebook of the team, we also hope to share it. Along with the Voice of FCC, Tommy Gelehrter, will be those of the FS1 broadcast team that had the game for Nippert, play-by-play man, John Strong and Katie Witham who worked the sideline that day. The FS1 broadcast team had 4 days in the city to get the full Cinci experience, they were able to soak in the passion and atmosphere surrounding the big event. Tommy will relive the weekend and game with the others and lend their unique take on the first MLS go in Cinci. Kendall Watson who struck for the first MLS goal in Nippert along with the first to earn them a shutout, Spencer Richey, it was also the first of his career, will join in the fun. This pair will go over their experiences and memories of the game and the build up to this and how they felt the city welcome the team. One never knows if other surprise guests might turn up.

The whole world paid notice as the March to the game through Correyville had several thousand making the pilgrimage, getting to Nippert an hour ahead of kickoff with many different supporter groups together as one. The team asks those who were involved at the game to share these experiences from the march or recreate things, while staying home of course and share any images at #FCCincy & #AllForCIncy both, any video may be used in a video thay make as a retrospective look at the days events, due out early next week.

The team has linked up with some of their partners to fuel the fun for stay-at-home orders:
-Buffalo WIngs & RIngs: curbside, carry out & delivery

-Dunkin: drive through and carry out

-Frisch's: drive thru, carry out & deliver
