Detroit City FC (DCFC) posted a 2:1 win over hosts New York Cosmos, during NPSL (National Premier Soccer League) Members Cup action, at Uniondale’s Mitchel Athletic Complex on Saturday evening.

The victory gave DCFC sole possession of first place in the six-team league standings with 7-0-1 record (22 points), while Cosmos drop to second with a 6-1-2 mark (20 points).

DCFC jumped out to a stunning 2:0 first half advantage with goals from defender Tendai Jiria and forward Yazeed Matthews in the eighth and 30th minutes, respectively.

The Cosmos got on the board in the 82nd minute-mark with a tally from defender Matt Lewis, however DCFC held on for the win and extended its unbeaten streak to 22 games.

DCFC now needs to win one of its final two games to claim the inaugural NPSL Members Cup as it visits Michigan Stars FC on Wednesday and hosts the Milwaukee Torrent next Saturday.

Meanwhile, Cosmos must win next Saturday at Napa Valley 1839 FC and have DCFC lose its final two encounters in order to lift the NPSL Members Cup trophy.
