Decision Day has RBNY in Montreal

By Sean McCaffery, October 4, 2019

Last year they set a record with an historic season this year though not limping, what a difference a year makes, they are now unscored upon over the last 270 minutes and over the last few games playing far better, well enough to advance in the playoffs we shall see, but this is the last look at the regular season. In what will be the 19th meet with the two teams, one a rebrand, the other a brand brought back from the old NASL, they have 10 points separating them as the playoff bound NYRB already lost to the Impact 2-1 for their first regular season win at RBA, another loss would drop NYRB back to .500.  Montreal has been a bad trip for NY of late as over the last 7 trips they have not won and are goaless for the last 3 visits to Stade Saputo. At 3-3-0 on the road recently and a goal in each match with 2 shutouts they should be optimistic, and their 27 away wins in MLS over the last 5 seasons is tops in the league, adding more hope. Luis Robles, the backstop and captain had his 3rd straight shutout of the year and now has 9 on the year, 72 total, those 9 are 4th best in the MLS, the 72 are good for 8th in MLS history. If he keeps the Impact at bay for 27 minutes, he breaks the team mark held by him. How will the playoffs play out?, that will not be known until after the games by themselves, DC United and Toronto, leaving them anywhere from 4th to 6th seeds. This is their 10th year in a row in the 2nd season. See the Facebook page of Soccer Long Island Magazine for video in advance of the game.

Long Islander Tim Parker, shown here with Wayne Rooney, and the rest of the Red Bull defense hope to have Luis Robles rewrite the team record books facing Montreal.
