CARY, N.C. (March 29, 2023) – The Courage make their first road trip of the 2023 season this Saturday, April 1, when they visit the San Diego Wave at Snapdragon Stadium for a 10:00 p.m. ET (7:00 local) kickoff. The game will be broadcast live on Paramount+ and @TheNCCourage will provide social media coverage.
Pickett is a California native and former National Champion with the Stanford Cardinal. She played 90 minutes in the season-opener and held an 86% pass success rate, including 93% in the attacking half. The opener was also against her former club: Kansas City traded Pickett following the 2021 season to the Courage as part of the package for Sam Mewis.
Pickett was selected fourth overall in the 2021 draft by the Current. The Courage have three of the first four picks from that draft on their roster (Emily Fox, 1st, Brianna Pinto, 3rd, Pickett, 4th).
STORY LINES:
- HOT START: The North Carolina Courage opened the season with a 1-0 win over the Kansas City Current, earning their first season-opening win since 2018.
- INTERNATIONAL DEBUTS: Danish signee Mille Gejl made a banner first impression, scoring a long-range strike for the game-winner in the opener. Fellow international signee Narumi Miura provided the assist as five newcomers made their Courage debut Saturday with three making their NWSL debut.
- CASEY CLEANS UP: With three saves and a clean sheet last Saturday, Casey Murphy became the Courage all-time career clean sheet leader with 18, breaking a tie with teammate Katelyn Rowland.
- SURF & TURF: The Courage went 0-1-1 against the Wave in their inaugural season in 2022. Alex Morgan scored the lone goal in an 0-1 final in Cary in May, then the teams played to a 0-0 draw in the regular-season finale in San Diego.
