No, not his father of the ES National Team of the 80's but Junior Burgos, father Efrain has retired, however they play the same position. Junior informed "I'm excited and motivated for a new challenge, especially with such a prestigious and historic organizatioin like the New York Cosmos." At 30 he is in his playing prime and is fully expected to lend a creative touch to the team bringing with him his reputation as a restart specialist, one of which lead to the 2015 NASL Goal of the Year. His pro career began with Toronto FC then to the Atlanta SIlverbacks. His first time with Atl. was in 2014, the then rejoing them just in time to have the Cosmos defeat them for the Soccer Bowl title. Time with the Rowdies on loan while with the ATL United in 2016 then it was off to Reno 1868 in 2017. Of late he had been with CD FAS, a top tier team in ES getting 17 games and a pair of goals. Now a 5 year veteran of his national team, he struck for his first goal that year facing Nicaragua in a 2-0 win. Cosmos Seniro VP Joe Barone stated " Bringing in a player with international experience like Junior is fantastic." HC Carlos Mendes echoed these sentiments "He's an active member or the Salvadoran national team and brings key expereience to our squad." Junior is no less than the 4th Salvadoan National Team Player for the team in this the reboot era. Many fans travelled to Philly for the most recent Gold Cup and were cheering for those others as they warmed up with Cosmos flags flying proudly.
