From Cosmos
The New York Cosmos have one of the most recognisable histories in American soccer. Founded in 1970, the club quickly became a symbol of ambition and possibility in the old NASL.
During the late 70s the Cosmos drew global attention by bringing some of football’s biggest names to the United States. Pelé joined in 1975, followed by stars like Franz Beckenbauer and Giorgio Chinaglia. Crowds grew, media coverage exploded, and matchdays became events that stretched far beyond the sport itself.
Those years didn’t just produce trophies. They helped show that professional soccer could thrive in the US long before the modern era arrived.

Now a new version of the Cosmos is being built for 2026. The club will compete in USL League One and play home matches at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, New Jersey.
Hinchliffe is a historic venue dating back to the early 1930s and one of the few remaining stadiums connected to Negro League baseball. Bringing the Cosmos into a place with that kind of heritage sets the tone for what this new period aims to be: grounded, community focused, and built for long term growth.
Community.
Club.
Cosmos.
