Charlotte Burge is the youngest profes sional women’s goalkeeper in the U.S. at age 18. Carolina Ascent FC is the only women’s soccer sports team in Charlotte. INAUGURAL KITS Carolina Ascent will sport the ‘Trailblaz er Kit’ at home, featuring a picturesque mountainscape. A sunset along the Carolina shoreline headlines the ‘Coastal Kit’ which will be worn on the road. FOR THE CAROLINAS, BY THE CAROLINAS Head Coach Philip Poole was very inten tional when building the club’s inaugural roster. One of his goals was to bring local talent back home to the Carolinas to repre sent Carolina Ascent FC. Carolina natives on pro contracts: Vicky Bruce, Cannon Clough, Renée Guion, Em ily Moxley, Ashlynn Serepca, Josie Studer. Local players on Academy Contracts: Isa Franco, B Hylton, Maria Tapia, Riley Pickels Kathrynn Gonzalez was called up to the Dominican Republic national team for their matches against Honduras in May 2025. Eli Hutchinson was called up by the Israel National Team for UEFA Nations League matches in April 2025 for UEFA Women’s Nations League. B Hylton was called up by the England U19 National Team for 2025 UEFA Qualify ing matches in November 2024. Stella Spitzer was called into training camp with the U.S. U15 Youth National Team in Atlanta November 14-20. Charlotte Burge was called into the U.S. U19 Training Camp in October 2024. PIONEERING MOMENTS Carolina Ascent set a new record for the highest attendance for a professional women’s soccer club game in the Caroli nas with 10,553 fans. Carolina Ascent recorded the first win in USL Super League history. Vicky Bruce scored the first goal in USL Super League history. Audrey Harding logged the first assist in league history. #1 Meagan McClelland recorded the first clean sheet in league history. Carolina Ascent was the first USL Super League team to score multiple goals in a single game on 9/6. B Hylton became the youngest goal scorer in team history on 4/12/25 (17 years old). A Charlottean for over 24 years, Poole was selected to lead the team in its inaugural season due to his impressive tenure with the United States Women’s Na tional Team (USWNT) and his local ties to the Carolinas. Poole is one of only a handful of coaches in the United States to hold the USSF Pro License. Poole first joined the ranks at U.S. Soccer in 2012, working as a coach and scout from the U-17 level up to the senior National Team. He joined the coaching staff for the USWNT in January 2020, serving in multiple roles. During his tenure with the national team, the squad qualified for two Olympic Games and one FIFA World Cup. From 2017 2019, Poole was a staff member overseeing the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team. He also served as the Assistant Coach for the U.S. Under-20 Women’s World Cup Team in 2014. Poole was also a member of the Puerto Rico Men’s National Team coaching staff during the qualifying campaign for the FIFA 2014 World Cup. Collegiately, Poole’s prior coaching experi ence includes stints with Wake Forest University as the Associate Head Coach, Assistant Coach with UNC Charlotte men’s soccer program and one year with his alma mater, Wingate University. Poole has always been heavily involved in the development of soccer in the Charlotte area. He spent five years as the Executive Director of the Lake Norman Soccer Club before an extremely successful period as the Elite Girls’ Director at Charlotte Soccer Academy. A native of Newcastle, England, Poole played as a youth player with Newcastle United before spending three seasons with Hull City AFC. In 2000, Poole came to the United States to attend college at Wingate University. There, he was named to the Team of the Decade and picked up many accolades during his successful career. 2024/25 CAROLINA ASCENT FC GAME NOTES 2024/25 TECHNICAL STAFF BECKY HYLTON - ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER Hylton brings coaching experience at almost every level with a passion for player development. Most recent ly, Hylton served on the coaching staff for the Charlotte Development Academy, a local soccer program dedi cated exclusively to girls, since 2020. For approximately 10 years, Hylton served as an Assistant Coach with the Charlotte Lady Eagles in the former USL W League. During her time with the club, the Lady Eagles were National Semifinalists twice. In May 2024, Hylton was inducted into the Charlotte Lady Eagles Hall of Fame. Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Hylton was a collegiate All-American at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. In 2008, Hylton was inducted into the Gordon College Athletics Hall of Honor. She continued her playing career in the USL W League beginning in 1995 which was the highest level of women’s soccer in the country at the time. Hylton was rostered with the Boston Renegades, New Jersey Wildcats, and the Charlotte Lady Eagles where she was part of the 2000 squad which reached the league final. ERIKA DUNCAN - ASSISTANT COACH Duncan served as the Head Coach of the Carolina Ascent FC USL W League team during the 2024 season. She previously coached the Charlotte Independence USL W League team for the league’s first two seasons in 2022 and 2023. Prior to her time in Charlotte, Duncan was an Assistant Coach with the Division I women’s soccer team at Marshall University, her alma mater. A native of Easthaven, Scotland, Duncan’s playing career reached new heights as she played for Scotland’s U17’s and U19’s. She also competed in the European Championship and earned a spot on the Scotland Women’s National Team. Before venturing to the United States to play college soccer, Duncan played three seasons for Scottish professional side, Newburgh Ladies F.C., beginning in 2004. JACK VUNDUM - ASSISTANT COACH Vundum joined the Carolina Ascent staff after 11 years with the Wingate University women’s soccer program. He was named the Interim Head Coach ahead of the 2019 season in which the Bulldogs posted a 15-5-2 re cord and reached the third round of the Division II NCAA Tournament. After his successful season in the inter im role, Vundum was named the Head Coach beginning in 2020. Vundum is 53-24-16 in his head coaching career, going 29-14-6 in SAC play. During his 11 years with the Bulldogs, Wingate reached the NCAA Tourna ment five times and competed in the South Atlantic Conference Championship match seven times. While at Wingate, Vundum also served as the Director of Operations and Management for the Wingate International Soccer Academy, bringing in over 350 athletes to attend camps over the years. EVAN HARVEY - ASSISTANT COACH & GOALKEEPER COACH Harvey transitioned to Carolina Ascent FC from Charlotte FC where he trained goalkeepers throughout the ranks with the MLS club for over two years. Harvey previously served as an Assistant Coach in collegiate soccer with Limestone College and East Tennessee State University. From 2010-2014, Harvey played for Catawba College where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science. While on the technical staff at ETSU, Harvey earned a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology: Exercise Physiology & Performance. BRENDEN SLOMKA - INTERNAL PERFORMANCE ANALYST Before joining Carolina Ascent, Slomka served as a Video Scout for FC Wil in the Swiss second tier iden tifying potential transfer and loan targets for the club and tracking progress of scouted players. For three seasons, Slomka contributed to the Syracuse University Women’s Soccer Program analyzing game film to create opposition scouting reports, helping Syracuse to its best season as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Slomka also collected, organized, and cleaned data from Playermaker wearables to assess individual progress. In 2022, he worked with the USL W League as a Video Analyst Intern. In 2021, Slomka worked as a Player Development Intern with Syracuse FC, scouting future opponents by compiling reports and tracking key player actions during matches. He also worked with Atlantic City FC analyzing opponents’ matches and providing insights on formations and tendencies. 2024/25 CAROLINA ASCENT FC GAME NOTES 2024/25 TECHNICAL STAFF AUSTIN TOMAZ - HEAD PERFORMANCE COACH Prior to joining Carolina Ascent for the 2025 season, Tomaz worked as a performance coach for Grand Can yon University for the men’s soccer team and men’s/women’s tennis teams before becoming the Assistant Director of Sports Performance at GCU. Tomaz also worked as a professor in the Grand Canyon exercise science department. Tomaz has served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Webber Internation al University. Tomaz specializes in mitigating soft-tissue, non-contact injuries, developing training programs implementing strength and conditioning principles. Additionally, Tomaz has experience at Michael Johnson Performance and the YMCA as a performance specialist. LANE DAVIS - EXTERNAL PERFOMANCE ANALYST Davis joined Carolina Ascent in 2024 as the team’s goalkeeper coach. Davis has coached for over 30 years, 21 of them at the collegiate level. Davis spent eight years as the goalkeeper coach of Duke University’s wom en’s soccer team. Davis also spent time coaching at Saint Joseph’s, UMBC, George Washington, UC-River side, Missouri State, and Kansas. Davis is also a talent scout for U.S. Soccer, identifying prospective talent for the country’s Youth National Teams. OLIVIA HARALDSSON - TEAM OPERATIONS COORDINATOR A Charlotte native, Haraldsson joined the organzation full-time in 2024. Previously, Haraldsson worked gameday operations for the Charlotte Independence as an intern, preparing all team activities on gamedays and setting up locker rooms in advance. Haraldsson graduated in 2023 from UNC-Charlotte with a major in Communication Studies and a concentration in Mass Media. JESS POTTS, PT, DPT, SCS, Cert. DN, CSCS - HEAD OF PHYSICAL THERAPY Potts is a residency-trained and board-certified Sports Clinical Specialist Physical Therapist. She previously served as the Sports Physical Therapist with NWSL’s Orlando Pride providing individualized, comprehensive re habilitation and treatment plans for players to maximize performance and overall health.
