'Caps Drop one to the 'Quakes

By Sean McCaffery, July 16, 2020

A late goal swamped the 'Caps as Shea Salinas made it 4-3 for the Cali. team late into injury time last night.

WIth half an hour of regulation time left, the team out of Canada was ahead 3-1, not as comfortable of a lead as one would have thought at the time. Ali Adnan, Cristian Dajome and an own goal were the diffference makers as the 'Caps played their first game in the MIB tourney. The 7 blocks in his first MLS game for Vancouver gave Ranko Veselinovic at just 21 the MLS game record in that category.

Hwan found Adnan on the left side who then brought the ball to the middle and fired a curving shot to the far corner and a 1-0 lead, he then paid tribute to a pair of his late Iraqi internationals taken by the Coronavirus. At 22' Dajome lead a break and fed Reyna, who tried to return the favor, the GK touched it and it went in off San Jose player Judson for an OG. Just before the half, Rios brought one back for the 'Quakes as he sent the corner by Crisitian Espinoza home, 2-1 at the half. Vancouver kept the pressure up and Dajone hit for his first MLS goal and a 3-1score. Wondo found his 14th goal v the 'Caps, tops for any player facing any team at 72', the equalizer as a high header sent true by defender Alanis, again from a corner. 8' into extra time, Salinas put the final nail in the coffin, 4-3, what a comeback by San Jose. San Jose set an MLS record with their 22 corners as. Homegrown Patrick Metcalfe has his first minutes as a sub as an MLS player.

Next game for the 'Caps will be the Sounders July 19 @ 7:30 p.m. PT locally on TSN1/4 & TSN Radio 1040.

Sadly the mother of Bryan Merdeith, Beth passed away and he was off to NJ of course. Ahead of the match, his jersey was brought out by Jake Nerwinski with his mother's name written below the number.
