BWP tabbed for MLS Player of the Week

By Sean McCaffery, September 24, 2020

As a big sign in Red Bull Arena reminded me last night, BWP was the fastest to 100 goals in MLS, he is now #3 all time in POW nods, his 12th time overall, that is 3 months worth, his first since Week 29 of 2018, he had a stubborn groin injury.

He drove them to a half dozen-0 rout of the Whitecaps at home as he hit for a brace, his 22nd game with more than one goal, now with 7 on the year, he is tied for the #4 spot in the Golden Boot race. He sits at 6th overall in league lore with his 115 regular season goals, his new team, LA Galaxy are also tied for 6th, in the standings of their conference with a 5-5-3 record, good for 18 points.

He made it 2-0 just 5' in as his spinning right footed strike in the center of the box found the lower left corner. Just 6' later he made it 3-0 as he tucked away the goal as a Diego Rossi shot deflected to to him and buried again a right footed shot on a scissor strike to the middle of the net.

We had just reached out to his team about him yesterday.

Given the lack of offensive power that NYRB have shown thus far, wonder if they regret his going west? He has more than half the total goals of his past team on the year.
