Clarets kick off 2025 against the Potters at Turf Moor

Burnley begin the New Year at Turf Moor, as the Clarets entertain Stoke City in their first Sky Bet Championship fixture of 2025.

Scott Parker's side head into the meeting between the two sides on an 11 match unbeaten run and still remain undefeated at home all season.

The Clarets are currently 3rd in the Championship table prior to the New Year's Day fixture and a win against the Potters could lift the hosts into the automatic promotion places.

Wednesday's visitors are in 18th place, four points above the relegation zone, after claiming their first win in 10 games on Sunday against Sunderland.

The opposition

The Potters are in their seventh consecutive Sky Bet Championship campaign, after suffering relegation from the Premier League in 2018.

City had enjoyed 10 straight seasons in the top-flight prior to that relegation, which included three consecutive 9th place finishes between 2013 and 2016, as well as finishing runners-up in the 2011 FA Cup final.

Since returning to the Championship, the highest place finish the Potters have achieved is 14th, which came three seasons ago and City were to narrowly avoid relegation to League One last year, after finishing just six points above the relegation places.

After the announcement of Narcís Pèlach's arrival in September, that confirmed the seventh permanent boss since returning to the second-tier, with four caretaker manager's during that spell, but after just three months in charge, Pèlach was then dismissed from his role four days ago.

Following the Spaniard's departure, former Potters defender Ryan Shawcross was appointed as caretaker boss and in his first game in temporary charge on Sunday, the Potters claimed all three points against Sunderland.
