BARNES & WORRALL JOIN COMMUNITY VETERANS FOR REMEMBRANCE AFTERNOON
Players visit veterans ahead of Remembrance Fixture
Ahead of Remembrance Day, Ashley Barnes and Joe Worrall visited The Leisure Box to take part in Burnley FC in the Community’s Remembrance Afternoon Tea, held in honour of local veterans.
Each year, Burnley FC in the Community supports over 400 veterans across East Lancashire, helping improve physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing within the armed forces community. The veteran programme includes museum visits, breakfast clubs, health workshops, organised lunches, outdoor activity days, and more, creating meaningful opportunities for connection and support.
During the event, the players joined veterans in sharing stories, reflecting on wartime experiences, and exploring the history of service. They also visited The STEM Den, Burnley FC in the Community’s interactive learning space, where they teamed up with veterans to play a World War II-themed game.

Burnley FC in the Community’s Veteran’s Manager Daniella Worth told us: “Remembrance isn’t just about honouring the past, it’s about making sure our veterans feel seen, valued, and connected. Having players like Ashley and Joe spend time with our group means the world. It sparks conversation, brings generations together, and reminds us all that their stories still matter.”
Veteran Jack Burrell said: “It’s made our day. Being a Burnley fan, it’s not often you get to see the players up close like this. As veterans, knowing there’s a lot of support out there, from Burnley Football Club makes a big difference.”

Joe Worrall added: “It’s a credit to the club and the community who set up this project. I don’t think people realise the amount of time that goes into organising these kinds of events for veterans or the many projects that fall under the umbrella of the community.
“It’s amazing, it’s an honour to come with the team to these events.”
Today's game against Arsenal is our dedicated Remembrance Day fixture, and we will proudly honour those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
We will be joined by military personnel, veterans and current serving members from the armed forces and prior to kick-off they will lead us in a moment of reflection and the Last Post.
We will remember them.
