Clarets cruise to victory at Loftus Road
A scintillating and dominating display from the already-promoted Burnley saw the Clarets claim all three points in fine fashion against QPR on Saturday afternoon, as Scott Parker's side extended their Sky Bet Championship unbeaten run to 32 matches with a 5-0 win over the R's.
Josh Cullen opened the scoring for the visitors in the 9th minute with a cool finish, before Zian Flemming smashed home the second goal shortly after.
Nine minutes after that, Flemming then headed in his second and Burnley's third of the afternoon, with substitute Jeremy Sarmiento rounding off the scoring in the second-half with two goals.
Midfielder Aaron Ramsey was then introduced with six minutes remaining, in what was the 22-year-old's first appearance for the Club in over a year, after recovering from a long-term injury suffered in February last year.
Head Coach Parker named just one change from Monday night's win over Sheffield United, as Luca Koleosho replaced Marcus Edwards out wide.
Despite the R’s looking to carve open an early chance with a through ball into the area that was cut out by Josh Brownhill, Burnley came a whisker away from breaking the deadlock.
Jaidon Anthony cut into the box from the left and saw his stinging effort sail just wide of Paul Nardi’s goal.
However, the Clarets did then get their opener shortly after through a well-worked team move involving Flemming, Brownhill and Cullen.
Flemming picked it up and laid it off for Brownhill on the edge of the area, with the midfielder threading a perfectly-timed through ball into the box for Cullen to slot home with a cool and composed finish underneath Nardi.
Burnley were dominating the opening stages and had the ball in the back of the net once again in the 17th minute, this time through Connor Roberts’ finish from a narrow angle, but it was ruled out for a narrow offside.
Parker’s men were in cruise control and doubled their lead just before the midway point of the first-half, as Flemming eventually hammered it into the roof of the net from close range, after Roberts had just seen his effort blocked well by Ronnie Edwards.
The Clarets were really showing their dominance and added a third just before the half-hour mark when Brownhill broke into the right side of the area and picked out Flemming at the back-post to head home into the bottom corner.
The away side weren’t looking to stop there though, as Burnley came close to bagging a fourth of the afternoon not long after, but a fine stop from Nardi denied Hannibal from sweeping it in from a few yards out after a mix-up in the R’s’ defence.
Although the Clarets did come close to adding more goals to the scoreline, Parker’s side went into the break three goals to the good.
The first attempt on goal for the visitors arrived seven minutes into the second-half, but Brownhill’s effort was caught by the hands of Nardi.
With the hour mark approaching, Burnley made their first change of the afternoon, as Jeremy Sarmiento replaced Hannibal.
And it took the substitute just three minutes to make an instant impact, after finding the back of the net from close range with a deflection helping it pick out the bottom corner.
The hosts were limited to very minimal efforts on goal and when R's substitute Emmerson Sutton broke into the area, Maxime Esteve does what he does best and took the ball well away from the forward.
In a very quiet afternoon for James Trafford, a fine save to keep out Jack Colback ensured that a 30th clean sheet of the campaign was on it's way.
Further changes for the Clarets with the clock ticking down then saw Redmond, Barnes and Ramsey introduced, with the latter making his first appearance since February 2024.
Burnley then had time for a fifth of the afternoon when Redmond teed up Sarmiento to sweep home his second to seal all three points.
