Atlantic Cup to be Contested Tomorrow

By Sean McCaffery, September 1, 2020

Quite possibly the oldest of rivalries as the MLS completes its first quarter century of play will play out in front of an empty Red Bull Arena, we do of course fully intend on being present for the contest. NY took a point away, but really gave up 2 in New England as Long Islander, Bruce Arena was still suspeneded for his oscenity laced tirade in Orlando. They take on the thus far hapless DC United at 1-4-3 at 7:30, keep up on the game via MSG, MSG Go & New York Red Bulls Radio on TuneIn.

As mentioned not only is this an historic matchup, it has happened on 79 previous occasions, all time DC leads, 43-31-17, this despite NY not losing in the last 10 games, 5-0-5, and only dropping a pair at RBA 9-2-5.

Last game Ben Mines had a coming out party, playing well taking people on and talking trash. He would assist Omir Fernandez for the opening goal of the 1-1 draw, the first goal for Omir as a starter, he already had 2 assists and goals. Mines had his first MLS assist in but his 2nd start, his first goal was in his first start v Portland in 2018, great production.

RBA remains a fortress as RBNY lays claim to the best home record in the league and tops in home victories as well since the joint opened in 2010. Their 109-27-34 has them also unbeaten over their last 4 games, 3-0-1, with a trio of shuouts in the mix, just for good measure. Fully 80% of the blank sheets in the career of Ryan Meara have transpired at home where he boasts a 6-0-3 record with a crazy low GAA of .89, wow.

Next up are the visiting Union Sunday at 7 p.m. ET.
