Uniondale, NY (May 23rd, 2026) – American Soccer Club New York rallied from a 3-1 second half deficit to earn a 3-3 draw against AC Newport in the Fighting Tomcats’ first road match of the season at Salve Regina University-Toppa Field in Newport, Rhode Island.

ASC New York (1-1-1) got off to a slow start in the match as AC Newport (0-1-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half. The Fighting Tomcats then found the back of the net in the 18th minute, Brayden Brown scored the first of his two goals on the night, heading in a feed from Luke Kirilenko, the first of his three assists in the game. AC Newport, playing the first home match in club history, would take a 3-1 lead into the halftime break.

The Fighting Tomcats would launch a furious comeback in the second half. Kirilenko set up Brown again in the 51st minute and then Chris Morandi took a feed from Kirilenko and scored the equalizer in the 70th minute and the match ended in a 3-3 draw.

Last week, the Fighting Tomcats defeated AC Newport 5-0 in a home match at Lavalle Stadium on the campus of Stony Brook University.

“We met a more competitive Newport team (on Saturday night),” said ASC New York Head Coach John Fitzgerald. “Unfortunately, we went down early causing us to chase the game. Credit to them, but also credit to our players for handling the moments at an away ground. The boys recomposed at the half and followed through on our changes.”

Despite allowing three goals, Fighting Tomcats goalkeeper Aidan Ganun was terrific in the match making a number of acrobatic saves.

“Terrific attitudes throughout the squad,” said Fitzgerald. “And now, our focus is on our next match.”

That next match will be next Saturday May 30th when ASC New York travels to Connecticut for a meeting with New Haven United FC in a 7pm kickoff at the University of New Haven. The next Fighting Tomcats home match will be on Saturday June 6th when they host New Haven United FC at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale. Kickoff is set for 6pm and tickets are available on the American Soccer Club New York website www.ascnewyork.com.
